Our commitment

Each year the Rotary Club of Strathalbyn puts its volunteer hours and fundraising efforts into a wide range of projects to benefit the local community as well as worthwhile projects overseas.

Local projects may be something that is in conjunction with other Rotary Clubs of local service clubs, or instances where community groups have asked for assistance.  Club members often see worthwhile projects within the community that they think will benefit from our help.

Overseas projects can be a response to an emergency or disaster such as floods, earthquakes and effects of war.  And we are always supporting the Rotary International Project - End Polio Now

Members are always here to help in whatever way is possible.

Hay for Farmers
The Rotary Club of Strathalbyn has just donated a whole truck load of hay to our South Australian Farmers. The Rotary community around the state are helping out and you can also make a difference with a small donation. Please read on to see how you can help.
South Australian farmers need Hay Heroes!
Some 93% of South Australian crops failed last year and farmers are having a horrific time sourcing quality feed for their livestock. It’s not just the expense they are battling, it’s that there is precious little available for purchase locally.
Rotary has stepped up and, in partnership with Farmers Relief Agency, is purchasing 600kg bales of hay from Victoria, freighting it into SA and donating it to farmers in desperate need. It is being sourced from areas known to be snail, fruit fly and frost-burn free.
In the first four weeks our Drought Relief program purchased and delivered 242 tonnes of hay. Each bale costs $110. A truckload of 32 bales is $3,520. The SA Dept of Primary Industries and Regions is covering the freight charges.
Will you be a Hay Hero? Please donate so that Rotary can continue buying hay to keep SA livestock alive.
Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible and EVERY dollar helps.

Back to School Funding
The beginning of the school year can be a stressful time for parents to provide what is needed for the new school year at both Eastern Fleurieu School and Tyndale.
A programme of providing Back to School Vouchers, which has been administered by the Fleurieu Community Foundation for many years, has now been adopted and funded by the Strathalbyn Rotary Club and the Strathalbyn Lions Club to help ease this pressure.
While initiated by the Rotary Club, the generous contribution from the Lions Club has meant the two service clubs are partnering equally in supporting school families.
Pictured are Rotary representative John Agnew, Lions representatives Kevin Johnson and Dave Leonard as well as Allan Phelps from the Fleurieu Community Foundation handing over vouchers to each of the school leaders.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has been providing books free of charge to pre-school children for 30 years.  Now in its 12th year in Australia, 1.5 million books have been provided to children around the country with the help of the Australian organising charity, United Way.  Books are selected by an expert panel in early childhood literacy for content that is informative, age-appropriate and inspiring.

The Rotary Club of Strathalbyn is proud to be able to provide this service to children from birth to 5 years within our region.

Participating children receive a book posted to them once a month from birth to 5 years.  If you have a child that fits this profile and would like to be involved, please contact the President of the Rotary Club of Strathalbyn president@strathrotary.org.au for details on how to apply.

Mental Health Awareness

A project initially started by the Macclesfield RSL, the Bollards for Mental Health Awareness has been taken on board by the Rotary Club of Strathalbyn in conjunction with the Strathalbyn & Communities Suicide Prevention Network.

The project aims to place bollards that highlight important contact details for those who may be suffering from mental health issues.  By placing these throughout our community in quite places where people may sit and reflect, it hopes to provide contact details for help that may encourage someone to reach out in their time of need.

The Rotary club has identified 20 places in Strathalbyn and surrounds which would be appropriate to place the bollards and is working with the Alexandrina Council to ensure that they are secured in safe places throughout the district.
